How to Merge PDF Files Online Free
By Dinesh Singh · 23 October 2026 · PDF Prem Blog
Applications love asking for "one single PDF" — all your certificates together, or a form plus its annexures, in a specific order. Uploading five separate files is not an option, and printing-and-scanning everything again is a waste of an afternoon. Merging solves it in a minute.
Step by step: merge your PDFs
- Rename your files with numbers (01-, 02-, 03-) in the order you want them.
- Open the free Merge & Split PDF tool and add all the files.
- Check the list order, then click Merge.
- Download the combined PDF and flip through it once to confirm the order.
Getting the page order right
Order is the one thing to think about before you merge. Portals usually want documents in the order they listed them — for example: application form, photo ID, marksheet, certificate. Rename your files with numbers first (01-form.pdf, 02-id.pdf, 03-marksheet.pdf) and they will line up in the right sequence when you add them.
Merging does not change the pages themselves — no quality loss, no watermarks, and links and text inside the pages stay as they were. You are simply putting several documents inside one cover.
Need only some pages? Split instead
The same tool also splits. If a portal asks for just your degree certificate out of a 40-page combined file, extract only those pages instead of uploading everything — smaller file, and you share only what was asked for. Our PDF compression guide helps if the merged file then crosses a size limit.
